About me/Business/Letterboxd

The above sums up a fair amount about me. That aside, I might also happen to be a student who watches an obscene amount of television and film. When I’m not blogging, I’m either figuring out how to deal with school or navigating the melting ice around me.

    Hi Polarbear!

I noticed you wrote a full SNL recap for last week’s episode. I wanted to reach out and let you know that every Saturday night/Sunday morning I send out embed codes for all the clips of that night’s episode. I would be happy to send those codes to you, please let me know the best email to contact and if that would be of interest!

    Thanks,

I emailed this to some random-ish email associated with a comment you left, so dunno if you got that, so here it is anyway!

Hey man (or woman), I’m really digging your reviews of Justified, and considering the show’s finale is airing in about a month’s time, I was wondering, would you be up for writing a short retrospective piece on the season as a whole? I’m not sure if you watch these, but around the time the finale airs a lot of shows will be coming back on air (GoT, Mad Men, Veep), so I understand if you’re too busy – it would just be cool to look back on the season with someone (in Ireland almost none of America’s dramas air on TV, so unless you’re an enthusiast nobody knows what the fuck you’re talking about haha) and as I said I really like your reviews and the points you make.

If you were willing to do this, I was thinking something along the lines of the AVClub’s (I presume you read the AVClub, as any self-respecting TV fan would, considering – along with Sepinwall – most of the best TV critics out there write for the site) current coverage of The Americans – sort of a dialogue-esque thing.

Again, no pressure on you whatsoever, but it would be super chill if you could do this.

    Thanks, Louis

Yeah, I’d be up for something like that. As of right now, I’m not sure how much work I’d have then, but yeah, I do watch GOT, Veep, and Mad Men (there’s also the Fargo premiere the following week and Scandal/Parenthood/Community finales). No promises, but I’d definitely like to; I’ll let you know when we get closer to the date.

If I can’t do a Justified retrospective, I might be able to do an Americans or Hannibal one, which both end closer to summertime. Same for Mad Men, Louie, Orange is the New Black, Game of Thrones, etc., based off your list of shows you mentioned in your first post. It’s up to you which one(s); I’d gladly do any of them.

Yeah, I’m easy as to what show we would do, I just think the idea of bouncing ideas of one another could be pretty cool. Do you think it would it make more sense to pick a show we had similar opinions of, or the opposite?

And no, I’m more of a lurker, the obscurity of some of the references thrown around there is just outrageous, and I’d be afraid that I’d come across a bit silly if I had anything less than an encyclopaedic knowledge of pop-culture haha

    • polarbears16 March 16, 2014 at 4:02 pm #

We can try out the similar opinions one first. I’m not sure we have opposite opinions on many things, anyway.

You should try out commenting someday! I was a lurker for a while, too, but I decided to sign up for an account, and I loved it. You definitely won’t come across as silly, based on what I’ve read of yours; the folks there are really welcoming.

Or, you can start off first with the Tolerability Index Forum, which is a smaller section of the AV Club that Douay-Rheims Challoner created due to the site redesign. Here’s the link: tolerabilityindex.freeforums.net

Commenting is definitely time-consuming, though; I definitely have experience with that fact.

Polarbears, this may be a false claim; at the very least this is an unprofessional (non standard) way for Ms. Cox to address this. I researched and tried to find your photo on their site…I found several photos of polar bears, could not find your avatar photo on their site. Anytime someone finds a real copyright infringement, they should send you a private message (not a random blog comment) and follow this procedure, which should always include a link to the original as proof…

“This is to advise you that you are using copyrighted and protected material on your website/blog. Your illegal use of XXXX article at XXXURLXXX is originally from my website/blog called XXTITLEXXX at XXXURLXXX. This is original content and I am the author and copyright holder. Use of copyright protected material without permission is illegal under copyright laws.

Please take one or more of the following actions immediately:

Re-write the post to include excerpts with a link to the original content.
Credit the material specifically to me, as author, and my website [be specific].
Provide compensation for use of my copyright protected material of $XX.00 USD paid via [payment method].
      Remove the plagiarized material immediately.
I expect a response within 5 days to this issue. Thank you for your immediate action on this matter.”

If you really did infringe on a copyright hopefully Ms. Cox will pursue this privately with you and provide you with a link to the original photo and the registered copyright info.

Apologies for the rabbit trail, I just did not feel this was handled correctly.

      PS- love the Leftovers 🙂
